The leadership and partners of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030) recognized the need to develop Principles for Ecosystem Restoration and Standards of Practice to Guide Ecosystem Restoration to support implementation of effective restorative activities.
The Standards or "SOPER" provides a comprehensive set of best practices that can be applicable to any ecosystem restoration project. The tools available provide assistance in operationalizing SOPER.
SOPER Explore provides search and filtering tools to explore and find practices useful for individual projects. SOPER Learn is a complete E-Learning course that teaches about all elements of ecosystem restoration illustrated with real-world examples. Finally, SOPER Apply provides an approach to organize and evaluate the use of selected practices for individual projects.

The Standards of Practice for Ecosystem Restoration are a set of guidelines and best practices designed to help practitioners, policymakers, and communities effectively restore degraded ecosystems. These standards provide a framework for planning, implementing, and monitoring restoration projects, ensuring that they are ecologically sound, socially equitable, and economically viable. By following these standards, stakeholders can enhance biodiversity, improve ecosystem services, and contribute to the overall health of our planet.
